MONSTER TRUCKS Filming Begins in Chilliwack

Filming for the 100 million dollar CGI (Computer Generated Image) and live action movie "MONSTER TRUCKS"  is well underway in the historic downtown core of Chilliwack today so I took my trusty camera and went for a look.  The plot outline is under wraps at this time, but speculation suggests that the film will be based on a toy line from Hasbro.  This is a Paramount Pictures production and is scheduled to come out in May 2015.

Chris Wedge, who's directing, is known for his work in movies such as "Ice Age" (2002), "Robots" (2005) and "Epic" (2013); in short a busy and talented director.

The cast includes such notables as Jane Levy (of the TV series Suburgatory), Rob Lowe (West Wing, Parks and Recreation), Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class), Amy Ryan (The Office, one of my favourites actresses, you go Amy) and Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon).

They were watering down the Court Lane as I approached and I wondered why; so I asked.  Apparently, a wet surface looks better on film and should it rain in a different location the continuity of the scene can be maintained.

All the action was at Young Street and Victoria Avenue where a high speed chase was being filmed.  We were permitted to watch the filming, but of course, the crowd of curious bystanders I was part of were kept well back from the action.  Interesting to watch on a perfect day in Chilliwack.

What is critical to know is this - the stores are all open downtown and parking was easy.  So come visit the historic downtown Chilliwack you'll find there is a lot going on, pleasant shops and a major film being shot. You might even see a movie star.  Chilliwack, is a warm and welcoming community that is very pleased that Hollywood has come to town.

By the way, signs indicate that Chilliwack represents Anderson, North Dakota, where who knows, perhaps MONSTER TRUCKS are the norm.  ROARRRRRR

Imagine living here.....
